Back & Neck Pain

Back & Neck Pain

Depending on the underlying problem that’s causing the pain, different treatments are recommended for treating a neck or back condition. A primary source of neck and back pain can be a muscle spasm. A muscle spasm is sometimes a symptom of another condition such as a herniated disk, a ligament problem or even an alignment issue. The muscles that surround the spine can react to one of these conditions. The physical therapists at Back On Track will reduce the pain and reduce the chances of the pain coming back, by treating both the primary and secondary conditions.

For our clients with pinched nerves, alignment problems, pain in the neck, back, arms, or legs from herniated disks, and arthritic changes in the spine, Back On Track will provide cervical and lumbar traction. Mechanical traction is performed on a traction table. The vertebrae are gently spread to relieve pain from herniated disks and other causes of spinal nerve root irritation. Manual traction can also provide relief from pain in the arms, legs, and back that is caused by a herniated disk.

Back On Track's other therapies used to relieve neck and back pain include mobilization techniques. For some patients craniosacral therapy are very beneficial. This technique is a very light pressure treatment that works with the dural material and cerebro-pinal fluid surrounding the spinal chord and brain. Craniosacral therapy helps to alleviate acute and chronic pain within the body.

Ultrasound, moist heat, ice therapy, and electrical stimulation are useful for treatment of sciatica and back pain. Burdenko and aquatic therapies can be essential to the treatment of spinal problems. The body’s bouyancy in water relieves pressure on the spinal column. Combine this therapy with warm water therapy — deloading—spasmed muscles will relax, reducing pressure on nerve roots and providing relief from back pain.

The physical therapists at Back On Track will provide patients with strengthening and endurance exercises, develop stretching techniques, postural education, and training programs in body mechanics that will rebuild muscles and align the spine to reduce future back and sciatic pain.
